The liverfluke (Fasciola hepatica) exists on all continents except antarctica. It is widely spread in South America, Egypt and many other places around the globe, including Europe.
Snail fever (Schistosomiasis)
Snailfever or Bilharzia, also know as Shistosomiasis, is a disease caused by a fluke from the Shistosoma family.
PINWORM
Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) is the most common worm infection in Europe and is most common with young school children and their families. It only spreads between humans, no pets will get infected by this parasite.
HOOKWORM
Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm) belongs to the group of worms of….. The most common place to get infected is in tropical locations but the parasite in spread all over the world. A fully growm hookworm can become approx 1 cm long. Humans are the only hosts for this infection and it is seen in patients of all ages, from children to old people.
DOG TAPEWORM
Echinococcus granulosus (Dog Tapeworm) is a little tapeworm that is spread in most parts of the world, mainly with dogs and foxes.
In order to get infected, a human has to get the worm eggs ingested through food or water.
WHIPWORM
Trichuris Trichiura (whipworm) is one of the main worms affecting the intestines, together with hookworm and Ascaris. According to the CDC approximately 795 million people currently are infected with the whipworm globally.
ROUNDWORM
Ascaris lumbricoides (Roundworm) is one of the most common parasites in the world. According to the CDC, between 800 million and 1.2 billion people are estimated to have a roundworm infection globally today. It is in general not contagious from human to human. The incubation time from getting an infection through ingestion of an egg to having an adult worm in your body is approximately 8 weeks.
